It is a long way to world standards – and some have done it!
We spend 4-5 hrs per day just to drive from one company to the other, getting the whole range of an extremely busy, active, seemingly chaotic city. On the way we pass big new housing areas and very poor living conditions right next to one another. So being in India only for few days now we are full of contradicting pictures, ideas and impulses. But maybe that is one of the learnings for us to begin with – just to take single impressions as thus and not to try to get them all in one big picture.
Just to describe one difference within entrepreneurs: We met businessmen who plan to get into the European market, most of them working in the food business and very experienced in Asian and African markets. They hope that EU will reduce the standards to have easier access to the European market.
And on the other hand we met with the management of a pharmaceutical company that was founded in 1982 and today is producing in different continents and makes business with over a hundred countries. They welcome the high standards they are forced to keep up to. Delivering to some of the worldwide leading pharmaceutical companies they are often confronted with auditors keeping up a continuous pressure on improvement. With quality standards being accepted in the toughest pharmaceutical markets like USA or EU they can also stand up to small African countries which today seem to apply similarly high standards.
So what is really inspiring to us in all our meetings is the strong will to find ways to be successful in the future. And there are many success stories we are getting more and more aware of!
